Welcome

I am an associate professor at the University of Rochester Department of Political Science.

I study conflict and ethnic identities. I've written books and articles about conflicts over migration and ethnic territorial autonomy public support for war, and war costs.

Currently, I am writing a global comparative study of nativism titled Strangers and Settlers: Migration and Conflict in a Nativist World. This book will be a combined treatment of political movements against international immigration and activism against internal population flows. A draft introductory chapter is available here (pdf).
